24 April 2023: CHC Training Package Updates

According to the South Australian government reports the reinstated Certificate III and Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at TAFE SA have seen a surge in admissions nearly doubling the enrolments in early childhood programs.

The courses have also been included in the Fee-Free TAFE list, which has further encouraged students to pursue qualifications in early childhood education and care.

Minister Blair Boyer, the Minister for Education, Training and Skills, has commended the increase in student enrolments, highlighting the decision to bring back these courses as the right one.

04 March 2023: CHC Training Package Updates

SkillsIQ completed a minor release for CHC: Community Services, introducing updates to qualifications and skill sets. The changes made did not require a full review or endorsement of the training package, indicating their minor nature.

Qualifications and skill sets were updated, ensuring individuals completing the training package are equipped with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills necessary for success in the community services sector.

30 December 2022: CHC Training Package Updates

A minor update to the CHC training package, version 9.1, was released on December 30, 2022. The update involved the removal of the CHC40113 – Certificate IV in School Age Education and Care qualification without replacement.

It is important to note that the removal of this qualification does not indicate a decrease in demand for educators for school-age children outside school hours. The removal was based on numerous factors, including the need to align with current industry practices, updates in industry standards, and changes in regulations.

Additionally, major CHC training package updates were released on December 7, 2022. These updates involved the examination and revision of components across sub-sectors such as community development, case management, and youth and child protection.

In CHC version 9.0, ten new qualifications, seven new skill sets, and 65 new units of competency were introduced. The update included the addition and superseding of one qualification and four units of competency, as well as the addition of two units of competency.

2021 CHC Child Care and Education Support Qualifications

The 2021 CHC Child Care and Education Support qualifications were published on training.gov.au, superseding the 2013 and 2015 versions. RTOs were given a teach-out period of one year, allowing existing students in the 2013 and 2015 courses sufficient time to complete their studies.

To effectively transition to the new qualifications and avoid any complications, RTOs were encouraged to update their materials promptly and secure the necessary CHC RTO resources.

April 20, 2021, Update for CHC training package

The new 2021 CHC update was approved and was expected to be published on training.gov.au soon. This update included the highly popular Child Care and Education Support qualifications, which were anticipated to generate significant student demand.

RTOs were to familiarise themselves with the changes and acquire the required CHC RTO resources to effectively cater to the upcoming student demand.

The AISC (Australian Industry and Skills Committee) approved the removal of Certificate IV in School Age Education and Care qualification. They also agreed to develop resources supporting RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) (Recognition of Prior Learning) for students without the entry requirement to the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, conduct research on the impact of the Certificate III entry requirement to the Diploma, and retain the proposed entry requirement to the Diploma.

April 14, 2021, Update for CHC training package

The agenda for the 37th meeting of the Australian Industry and Skills Committee on April 20, 2021, included the resubmission of the Cases for Endorsement of two CHC qualifications that were not approved in the previous meeting. Approval of these qualifications was forecasted to release of the new 2021 CHC courses on training.gov.au within the next few months.

These updates brought significant opportunities for RTOs, as a substantial number of students were expected to enrol in the 2021 CHC courses. Preparing for the upcoming student demand by familiarising yourself with the changes and acquiring the necessary CHC RTO resources is crucial.

SkillsIQ officially announced that their Cases for Endorsement have been approved by the AISC Committee. The approval encompassed various HLT qualifications, the Responsible Online Wagering Services unit, as well as the highly anticipated courses in Early Childhood Education and Care and School Based Education Support.

The courses in childhood education and care and ‘ed support’ are renowned as some of the most sought-after CHC courses. Several of these courses have already received approval during the AISC Communique on 23 February 2021. Anticipate a surge in demand once the 2021 CHC qualifications are released.
